Biography
Pythagoras is a death metal band from Long Beach, California, known for delivering a relentless mix of old school brutality and technical precision. Formed in 2016 by guitarist Ian Espinosa and bassist Etienne Bouyer, the band has built a sound centered on aggression, speed, and controlled chaos.
Featuring Ian Espinosa, Etienne Bouyer, Juan Morales, Dylan Cutler, and Andy Henriquez, Pythagoras continues to push forward with a focused and uncompromising approach. Their discography includes the EPs Active Shooter (2019) and Killdozer Rampage (2020), the full-length album Botched Field Surgery (2022), and the single Torch Torture (2025).

History
Pythagoras was formed in 2016 in Long Beach, CA by guitarist Ian Espinosa and bassist Etienne Bouyer, alongside original drummer Andy Arroyo and vocalist Marshall Insley. The band quickly began developing their sound, combining old school death metal roots with technical elements.
In 2017, vocalist Marshall Insley departed, followed by drummer Andy Arroyo in 2018. That same year, vocalist Andy Henriquez and drummer Dylan Cutler joined the band, solidifying a new core lineup and pushing the band’s sound further.
Guitarist Anthony Morehouse joined in 2019 during a transitional period for the band and remained until 2020.
In 2022, guitarist Juan Morales joined, completing the current lineup. That same year, Pythagoras released their debut full-length album Botched Field Surgery, marking a major step forward in both songwriting and production.
The band continued to build momentum with the release of the single Torch Torture in December 2025, further refining their sound. Pythagoras has also performed alongside acts such as Psycroptic, Cryptopsy, Crypta, and Decrepit Birth, establishing themselves as a growing force in the death metal underground.

The band pulls influence from old-school and technical death metal, including bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Archspire, Dying Fetus, and Obscura.
